SCIDES Competitive Athlete Program currently offers three streams: 

The “All Sport Program”, the “Junior Hockey Program”, and the “In-Person Blended Learning” programs.

All Sport Program

 SCIDES is proud to offer educational programming designed to meet the unique needs of student athletes. Our tailored programming is ideal for student athletes as it works with the demands of athletic competition to ensure learners are not sacrificing education for competition or vice versa. Our All-Sport Program delivers comprehensive education that covers all BC graduation requirements and has included full time students across a variety of sports, such as tennis, soccer, rodeo, swimming, figure skating, taekwondo, skiing, football, golf, MMA, basketball, baseball, and hockey. SCIDES alumni includes NHL draft picks and NCAA scholarship recipients.

Program Benefits

  • Our online platform allows students to access content anytime from anywhere.
  • There are no set school hours! Students can create a schedule tailored to their needs, optimizing both education and competition.
  • 9 athlete specific elective courses from grades 10-12, with more in development.
  • A dedicated athlete program coordinator (Corey Hermiston) who is a former student athlete with a deep understanding of student athlete life.
  • Coordinator also teaches English and athlete electives, enhancing program continuity and congruency.
  • Individualized grad plan for full time students based on educational goals (BC graduation, Canadian University, NCAA, etc.).
  • BC Certified teaching staff across all subjects, including a full time Student Support Services teacher.

Enrollment Requirements

  • You compete regularly in a sport at any level. Generally, this means weekly competition, though there are certain sport exceptions.
  • You engage in practice and skill development in your sport multiple days per week.
  • In addition to your training and competition, you engage in physical and mental training multiple days per week.
  • You are a dedicated learner committed to your education. 
  • You are a resident of British Columbia (anywhere in the province) OR are training/competing outside the province but maintain a BC address. We currently

    have students at soccer academies in Europe, tennis academies in Texas, and figure skating academies in Ontario!

Junior Hockey Program

SCIDES is proud to offer educational programming designed to meet the unique needs of junior hockey players. Our tailored programming is ideal for junior hockey players as it works with the demands of training, competition, and travel to ensure learners are not sacrificing education for hockey or vice versa. Our Junior Hockey Program delivers comprehensive education that covers all BC graduation requirements and currently includes full time students playing across the WHL, BCHL, KIJHL, and PJHL. SCIDES alumni includes NHL draft picks and NCAA scholarship recipients.

We are proud that our work to this point has cultivated partnerships with teams, where we provide education to groups of players competing together. Our partnerships include the Spokane Chiefs (WHL), Lethbridge Hurricanes (WHL), Coastal Tsunami (PJHL), and the Island HC (JPHL team affiliate of the Cowichan Capitals [BCHL]}. We are always looking to cultivate more partnerships and welcome interest.

  • If a player gets traded, education is not interrupted!
  • 9 athlete specific elective courses from grades 10-12, with more in development, including 3 specific to hockey.
  • A dedicated program coordinator/advisor (Corey Hermiston) who is a former hockey player and coach with a deep understanding of junior hockey life.
  • Coordinator also teaches English and athlete electives, enhancing program continuity and congruency.
  • Individualized grad plan for full time students based on goals (BC graduation, Canadian University, NCAA, etc.).
  • BC Certified teaching staff across all subjects, including a full time Student Support Services teacher.

Enrollment Requirements:

  • You are playing for a junior hockey team in an organized competitive junior league.
  • You are a resident of British Columbia (anywhere in the province) OR are playing outside the province but maintain a BC address and live in BC in the off season.
  • You are a dedicated learner committed to your education.

On Site Blended Learning

SCIDES is proud to partner with RINK Hockey Academy in Kelowna as well as Lion’s Peak Academy in Burnaby to provide in-person blended education to competitive athletes at the elementary and middle years level on site at each location.

  • Program Benefits
    • SCIDES online platform allows for adaptable school schedules that work with sport training schedules.
    • Student athletes are provided daily education and athletic training time. Student athletes are not sacrificing training for education or vice versa.
    • Full time BC certified SCIDES teacher on site daily to support learners.
    • Full-time Student Support Services teacher available.
    • Public Education aligning with British Columbia curriculum and standards.
    • Blended learning model offers the best of both worlds, in-person and online.
    • Academies offer professional fitness training tailored to this specific age range.
    • Academies offer regular on-ice skill development sessions for hockey players that are facilitated by professionals.
